Our Story
Frontier was built on a simple belief: people deserve the support they need to live meaningful, independent lives.
For more than 45 years, we’ve worked alongside individuals and families across Alaska—helping people stay in their homes, find connection in their communities, and build lives they’re proud of.
We live for empowering, educating and supporting our community.
Mission Statement
The mission of Frontier Community Services is to provide quality, individualized home and community-based services for people of all ages who are at risk of, or experiencing a disabling condition, in order to minimize the need for institutional care.
Vision Statement
It is our belief that people are healthier and happier living in their own homes and communities. Based on that belief, Frontier Community Services will advocate for the right of individuals with disabilities of all ages to live in the home and community of their choice.
Core Purpose
To create a culture that supports, celebrates and promotes self-determination toward
meaningful lives.
FCS will continue to develop as a sound quality human service organization by:
-
providing services that are needed to support individuals and families to live safely in the least restrictive setting of their choice
-
increasing affordable, accessible, residential, community housing options
-
expanding service options in order to support individuals through all stages of life
-
and by promoting community awareness and understanding
Our Timeline
We embody Alaska's Shared Vision and work tirelessly to make it a reality.
Alaskans share a vision of a flexible system in which each person directs their own supports, based on their strengths and abilities, toward a meaningful life in their home, their job and their community. Our vision includes supported families, professional staff and services available throughout the state now and into the future.
The freedom to make day-to-day choices in one’s life
kindles dignity, satisfaction, and opportunities for growth.

We believe...
-
in adapting to the needs of the people we support, rather than making them conform to ours.
-
that people can get all the support they need where they live, and that services should be flexible, therapeutic, creative, and innovative.
-
our work should focus on people acquiring skills that are not only practical and useful, but promote individual well-being.
-
that individual choice should be valued and encouraged.
-
that people with disabilities should be highly involved in determining the types of services that they want and need.
-
that the biggest difference between surviving and truly thriving in the community is to have close, satisfying relationships with friends and family.
-
that services and living environments should be designed and modified, whenever possible, to fit the unique needs of the individual.
-
conflict is normal and that self-determination should be fostered, encouraged and celebrated.
